does cinnamon really help keep ants at bay?

1. I don't know personally, but I have met people that swear that it works. I've also heard that if you can find where the ants are coming into a house, leaving a pile of sugar outside, where you want them to stay works. It's feeding the enemy, but at least they stay where you want them to.

3. I don't really know about cinnamon but if you are wanting to get rid of an ant problem in your home, I recommend a product called TERRO. It works great and it can be purchased at your local hardward or farm supply store.
